About Discovery Automotive

Discovery Automotive are independent Land Rover specialists, based in Perth Western Australia. It is run by the Tickel family, who have a long history with Land Rovers in Perth. Discovery Automotive was established in 1991 as a parts supply business. As our customer base increased, so did a need for a workshop. In 1999 we opened our workshop, and have never looked back.

The Tickel family includes Thomas, his wife Patricia and their two sons Julien and Damien. All members of the family have had many years experience in the automotive industry and many years owning Land Rovers. Thomas started his automotive career in 1969 at the then Land Rover dealer Faulls. In a few short years, he moved up the ladder and became the part's manager, Faulls was later merged with Winterbottom and became Winterbottom Faulls. In 1981 when the Land Rover dealership moved over to Oxford Alenbys, now known as Babagallo Land Rover, so did Thomas. In 1983 Thomas started Perths first Independent Land Rover parts specialists, Britparts in Welshpool. While at Britparts, Thomas won many awards for the best JRA Dealer in the state. As Thomas has always lived north of the river, he sold his share in Britparts and started Discovery Automotive.

Having grown up with Land Rovers and working with Thomas as children, it was almost assured that Julien and Damien would follow in their father's footsteps. In 1997 Julien started "officially" working at Discovery Automotive and did his qualifications as a parts interpreter. In the same year, Damien started his mechanical apprenticeship at the local Land Rover dealership. In 2001 Damien commenced working at Discovery Automotive.

The Tickel's have always had a strong interest with Land Rover's. Thomas rebuilt and modified his first Land Rover at the age of 22. While Julien commenced building his Land Rover at the age of 15, with the help from his 13 year old brother, Damien. Benjamin Tickel working already

With the 2nd generation of Tickel's now working with Land Rovers, it's all up to the 3rd generation to keep this family tradition going.
